Capital Punishment is Not "Justice," it is Murder.

Troy Davis
This man is set to be executed tonight, despite the fact that there is reasonable doubt of the fact that he is, in fact, guilty of the crime of which he was convicted, and despite worldwide and widely-publicized protests on his behalf. From now on I will not refer to "capital punishment" as anything other than murder, because murder is exactly the definition of purposefully ending the life of someone who is not an immediate threat to oneself or others. Besides the absolutely inarguable fact that without the ability to be omnipresent -- which no human has, as far as I'm aware -- it is guaranteed that a percentage of those executed will be innocent, punishing murder with murder to show that murder is wrong is a fucking joke, at best. I'm absolutely disgusted right now. If you still had any illusions that we were some kind of civilized people, here's your proof otherwise. We've got a long fucking way to go.

My thoughts are with Troy and his loved ones.  I hope they are able to find peace in the midst of this tragedy.

UPDATE: The Georgia Supreme Court has issued a reprieve.  Troy Davis has not been executed, but it is not yet confirmed if this execution will or will not happen.

UPDATE: He was executed.
